Upgrading the old B&G wind and depth sensors

One of the Alaska upgrade projects was to upgrade the old B&G Hecta 4 instruments to a modern version with NMEA interface. We settled on the B&G Triton with Speed/Depth and Wind and 2 cockpit displays on the NMEA 2000 network. It meant mounting a new wind instrument on top of the mast, routing a cable through the mast and running an NMEA 2000 backbone from the bow to the instrument panel and the cockpit displays. In order to make the system compatible with the Raspberry chart plotter and dAISy  passive AIS we used an Actisense USB NMEA 2000 to 0183 converter to feed the NMEA2000 signal into the Raspberry. The Raspberry running Raspbian with OpenCPN then acts as a chart table chart plotter and also multiplexes the NMEA stream over the boat internal wireless network so all boat diagnostics data (speed, depth, wind, GPS, AIS) can be received on mobile devices.
