Wrangell

The town of Wrangell on the north side of Wrangell Island and just south of the Wrangell Narrows was going to be our northernmost destination in Alaska. Located at the delta of Stikine River it has amazing salmon and crabbing. We did the short trip from Berg Bay in the afternoon and got to Wrangell just in time to arrange a tour of the LeConter Glacier by jetboat the next morning. Le Conte is a tidal glacier that calves icebergs constantly so the closer you get the more the water is littered with icebergs. We decided against taking Sage for time reasons but also because a jetboat tour is cheaper than a new prop for Sage…
Sitting in the cockpit that evening and drinking beer with the at the stern rail grill going, a small fishing boat came by, saw us, turned around and came up alongside gave us props for the nice grill setup we had going 😉 and asked if we wanted some prawns. We did not decline and they gave us a handful. We threw them on the grill immediately. It cannot get any fresher than that. Nice people in Wrangell. We were looking forward to our glacier tour on the jetboat the next morning, a nice break from piloting our own boat and at 10x the speed…
